Looking Forward and Back

As we begin our 14th season, we are reflecting on our experiences over the last 13 years.   It has been a wonderful ride, and we are looking forward and back.

We bought our land in 1982, and spent 23 years camping here as our kids grew up.   During that time, we cleared the land, completed a 3000-foot nature trail, and built our firepit and pavilion which are still in use by our guests, as well as our canoe and rowboat.   We built the house as a B & B in 2004/2005, and hosted our first guest on May 31st, 2005.

As of the end of April, 2018, we have had 3,176 reservations and served 13,257 breakfasts to guests from 42 states and the District of Columbia, as well as visitors from Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Myanmar, Netherlands, Paraguay, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom.   Our location between New York City and Niagara Falls encourages travelers to stop and enjoy the Finger Lakes on their way.

The many states and provinces from which our guests come include:

New York 34%
Pennsylvania 29%
New Jersey 9%
Ohio 5%
Ontario 2.3%
Massachusetts 2%
Others 19%

And our 4 guest rooms have been fairly even in popularity over the years:

Chardonnay Room 26.2%
Riesling Room 26.5%
Southview Room 25.3%
Merlot Room 22.0%

We are very proud that last year, 36% of our reservations were from returning guests, with one couple coming for a total of 27 visits since we first opened!

We are a continual work in progress.   We have an 80-foot dock, new steps to the lake and a wonderful new road down to our house (with no ruts).   Our website is updated continually, and our new reservation system makes it easy for our guests to book a room online.   Our website has been under continual enhancement, and now includes internet links to over 70 wineries and almost 50 recipes (16 just for scones).   As we continue to develop our dreams, we look forward to welcoming returning friends and meeting new friends as guests.   What a wonderful life!   We truly are Blessed!

  1. As neighbors and friends of Peter and Mary, I can attest to the fact that they are proactive and dedicated to making The Pearl the best B&B around.
    And it is!
